Hapless Hochul Strikes Again
Pushes new law to protect criminal illegal aliens
The number one responsibility of government is to protect the people of whom our elected leaders are sworn to serve. This means holding criminals accountable via prosecution, incarceration and other means. Yet Governor Hochul continues to remain out of touch or unwilling to protect New Yorkers. Her first failure was to adequately reform New York's bail reform law which still prevents judges from considering a defendant's dangerousness when determining whether to allow bail. Many offenses remain non bail eligible and require judges to release defendants pre-trial without bail. The 2017 law, "Raise the Age" sought to stop the automatic prosecution of 16 and 17 year olds as adults. Since the law's passage, many violent repeat offenders have had their misdemeanor cases moved to family court and felony cases from the Youth Part of Supreme court also moved to family court. This has resulted in an increase in violent youth crime since the law's passage. Continuing her pro-criminal philosophy, Governor Hochul has proposed new state legislation that would restrict all counties and local governments from cooperating with Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) to remove criminal illegal aliens from New York. The word here is criminal. Why would any sane, rational person put criminals first?
The Governor who is facing re-election is pandering to her extreme progressive socialist and communist inspired base as she faces a primary challenge from her left. The governor who has governed more akin to a schizophrenic progressive socialist liberal is grasping at anything she feels will help her get re-elected. She endorsed the communist New York City Mayor Mandami and is pushing to spend billions on free childcare even with nationwide allegations of fraud in similar programs. Nothing is free and in the end, someone will be paying the bill, the question is who? She outright lied to the electorate on the commuter tax which she suspended prior to the last election and then allowed to take effect after the election. Her governing philosophy is to say or do anything to win. What happened to the important issue of affordability? Increasing the cost of living whether through higher taxes or costs and putting criminals first is not rational. This is ample evidence of a New York Democrat Party which has drifted far from its moral piers and into a sea of absurdity.
The United States government is responsible for enforcing immigration law. The federal government like the states have a primary responsibility to protect Americans from foreign enemies both foreign and domestic. The prior Biden administration decided to allow millions of illegal aliens to enter the country illegally, rescinded all of the Trump's administration's immigration executive orders and created all new novel pathways for millions more to enter the United States. For years the American People were told the border was secure and due to migration patterns, there was nothing the government could really do to stop people from coming. Many migrants were not vetted and millions of "got aways", those who were not processed or identified by the Border Patrol entered the country. A significant number who entered the country were criminals in their home countries who committed murder, rape, human trafficking and engaged in the proliferation of drugs such as Fentanyl. Those who entered the county unlawfully violated federal law and therefore committed a crime. Hundreds of thousands of Americans were victims of crime and thousands died from fentanyl. The monetary cost was in the tens of billions.
When Donald Trump was elected, he promised to seal the border, stop the invasion and create the largest deportation force in history. Comparing the Biden administration numbers to the second Trump administration numbers after one year in office, the United States has effectively sealed and secured the border. The December 2024 to December 2025 number show the number of border crossings declined by 86.3%. The number of those released illegally crossing the border was zero compared to tens of thousands per month by the Biden administration. The claim by former president Biden that he lacked executive authority to fully seal the border was an outright lie when considering the executive actions taken by the current second Trump administration. President Trump moved to declare the border invasion a national emergency, sent troops to the border and signed almost one hundred executive actions under existing law. The ploy of feigning a need to pass border control legislation during the Biden administration was a sneaky effort to codify open borders into law. Numbers and facts don't lie.
Even though the border is secure, those who are caught illegally entering are detained and those who assert asylum are held pending adjudication of their asylum claims, tens of millions of illegal aliens remain inside the U.S. interior. This is where ICE comes in. Their job is to remove illegal aliens inside the interior of the United States. Yet many on the left have been repeating falsehoods related to due process. The truth matters. With the passage of the 1996, Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act ( IIRAIRA) signed into law by President Clinton, those who enter the United States unlawfully are subject to expedited removal without a hearing, deportation eligibility was made retroaction for some offenses and the law expanded offenses which are considering aggravated felonies leading to automatic deportation. Based on the law, former President Biden had no authority to parole or release millions of illegal aliens into the interior of the United States. He had no authority to grant recent migrants a hearing before an immigration judge often with a date of six years or later. This is how the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has the legal authority to request an unlawful hearing date be dismissed in compliance with the 1996 law subjecting illegal aliens to expedited removal. Further those who are charged with theft, burglary, shoplifting and larceny under the recently passed Laken-Riley Act of 2025 can be deported. Those subject to Temporary Protected Status (TPS) can be deported when TPS is ended by the DHS.
While there is always an exception to the rule in terms of unlawful immigration, we cannot have actual enforcement as the exception. Without enforcement of the nation's immigration laws, America would have no sovereignty in its affairs and will eventually become a failed state with no borders. We are partially there. The aim of the Biden administration and his party was to flood blue states with illegal aliens for political apportionment for congressional seats and for new voters in order to maintain their power for decades to come. It allowed illegal aliens to enter the country with impunity, obtain free housing, free healthcare, free education, legal assistance and other federal and state benefits. Illegal aliens committed crimes that victimized tens of thousands, caused the cost of housing to exponentially rise, caused higher medical costs and fentanyl to flood the county. States unlawfu.ly granted commercial driver licenses to illegal aliens who could not read English endangering lives and allowed illegal aliens to obtain professional licenses even allowing some to become Police officers. Its time for games, disinformation and dishonesty to end. Governor Hochul needs to protect New Yorkers by working with ICE to deport criminal illegal aliens not prohibit cooperation and protect criminals. Its not the job of states to enforce immigration law, yes, but it is the Governor's job to protect New Yorkers. Tell the Governor to say No to her progressive-socialist allies and protect New Yorkers from illegal alien criminals.
