Betty Ugenti-Massapequa Tea Party

On Thursday, September 17th, Betty Ugenti from the Massapequa Tea Party was our guest speaker. She discussed the reason why she became active in the Tea party movement and what she hopes to accomplish.

Betty explained that she was previously active in her local civic association in Massapequa and with her local school board. She stated that the was troubled by the reckless spending in Washington, the bailouts and the policies of the Obama administration such as the President's push for government controlled healthcare. She stated that she was not active politically other then voting and helping a candidate for her local school board, yet she felt compelled to do something.

She spoke about the rally in Washington D.C. on September 12th and brought a lap top to show various pictures of the event. With the use of her photos and the crowd's location by various landmarks, she made a compelling argument that more then 1 million people showed up for the rally. She also talked about the "Say no to healthcare reform" rally organized by the Massapequa TEA Party held on September 1st at the Massapequa Long Island Rail Road train station. She stated that the event had more then 1000 people in attendance and was a huge success.

It was her opinion that the TEA party movement remain non-political and not tied to any political party. She felt that it was important for the TEA party to stay involved on the issues.
