Healthcare bill cost companies billions
Speaking in support of the healthcare bill, the President indicated that one
of the benefits would be a reduction in healthcare costs. Once the bill was
signed into law, a tax benefit companies receive for providing retiree drug
benefits was eliminated. Based on accounting and financial rules, the
companies are obligated to disclose any anticipated costs that become known
in the quarter upon which the legislation is enacted. The first company to
take a charge against their profits was AT & T which took a billion dollar
charge. The total estimated cost is 4.5 billion.

With the recent election of Scott Browne in Massachusetts, Democrats lost their ability to block filibusters. Obama signs $1.1 Trillion Spending bill
President Obama signed a group of six appropriation bills that increase federal spending by 10% for fiscal year 2010. This comes on top of a record budget deficit of $1.5 Trillion and projected future deficits of one trillion each over the next five years.

With today's rally in Washington, thousands of protesters from the northeast said No to healthcare reform. The question for Congress is, Are you listening? The current health care reform proposal is far from a reform measure. It calls for $500 billion in cuts to Medicare and allows those as young as 55 to enroll in the Medicare program. You don't have to be an economist to understand that it doesn't add up. So to cover more people, the plan calls for significant tax increases. According to an analysis by the Heritage Foundation, Seniors would pay an additional 17% in taxes and small business owners would pay a staggering 54%. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that health care premiums would rise by 10-13% under the bill. The cost to extend health care is estimated at $829 billion. Can America afford it? Tell Senator Schumer and Gillibrand to vote No. Senator Schumer did tell the NCCA that he would vote against the U.S. House plan but was non-committal on how he will vote on the ultimate Senate version. For more information on the proposed health care reform, click here.

More on Climate Change
Even with the recent disclosure that several researchers conspired to alter data to validate their theory on global warming, the proponents of Cap and Tax are continuing to push for excessive taxes on the American people. Considering the United States remains in a recession or a possible double dip recession, any massive tax increase on energy will destroy any recovery for years to come. Senator Schumer has indicated to the NCCA that he will not support Cap and Trade legislation.

Cost of Bailout may reach 23.7 Trillion dollars
The total cost of the government's Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) may run as high as 23.7 trillion dollars according to a report by the programs Inspector General, Neil Barofsky. The report which will be delivered to congress tomorrow notes that the projection is on the high end and represents all of the commitments made by the federal government relating to the fiscal crisis. The previous reported exposure was estimated to be 12 trillion dollars. The new figure is almost double that of the national debt now at
11.6 trillion dollars and almost 10 trillion more then the 2008 GDP at 14.2 trillion .June 27, 2009
US House votes narrowly to pass largest tax increase in US history
On
Friday, the US House of Representatives on a 219-217 vote passed Cap
and Trade legislation which will limit carbon emissions from
power plants, factories, oil refineries and other sources. The bill
requires the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 17% in 2020
and 83% in 2050. Both supporters and opponents of the bill
acknowledge that energy costs will increase.
"Under my plan of a cap and trade system
electricity rates
would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to
retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that
cost onto consumers." Barack Obama-January 17, 2008
In order to continue
providing the current level of power, LIPA will have to convert to
solar, wind or other non carbon energy sources. Considering the fact
that all of their plants run on both natural gas and oil, LIPA will
have to pay for carbon credits under the bill and or build new
plants at a cost of billions. Who pays? Not LIPA, you! If applied to
the production of gas and other manufactured goods, the cost will
initially run about $3000 per family and will rise substantially. Jobs will be lost when businesses leave
the US and leave New York. As reported earlier, Governor Patterson
enacted a similar program in New York that increased the cost of
electric rates.

One Trillion in New taxes
Barack Obama released his proposed 3.6 Trillion dollar budget which calls for record spending increases. Even though he has proposed one Trillion in new taxes to pay for new spending, his proposed budget would more then quadruple the federal deficit to 1.8 Trillion dollars. His proposed budget does not include the recent $787 billion "stimulus bill", $700 billion for TARP funds (bank bailout?), $275 billion to prevent foreclosures (giving money to those who were irresponsible) and $410 billion for additional funding for governmental operations (more pork). Does the adage, "tax and spend" apply?
